Five matches of the SLC major league tournament – tier B were concluded today (01st March 2020) across various venues of the island. Panadura SC & Bloomfield CAC managed to clinch victories over Kalutara TC and Sebestianites CAC respectively.

Panadura Sports Club is having a fantastic season this year exhibited their brilliance against the neighbors Kalutara Town Club. Powered by Roshan Jayatissa’s stunning century down the order, then his valuable spell of 4 for 94, Panadura were able to earn a lead of 98 runs in the first inning. Kaumal Nanayakkara’s five-fer was another stand out performance for Panadura. Former Sri Lanka Youth Cap, Sanjika Ridma then helped Panadura with a classic 136 to widen their lead by 240 more runs in the second inning. Kalutara TC never looked settled in this game, fell awfully short of 213 runs when they were rattled out for 125 runs in their second inning.

It’s that man again, with more than 650 first-class wickets under his belt, Veteran Gayan Sirisoma almost ran through both innings of the sebestianites to complete a match bag of 12 wickets with a twin six-fers in two innings. Sebestianites were bowled out cheaply for 76 runs in the first inning were bettered by their opponents who scored 255 runs for their first inning owing to the vital half-centuries from Sachin Jayawardena (96) and Harsha Vithana (68). Sebestianite second inning was limited to 297 runs thanks to a much cautious batting effort displayed by Thilanka De Silva (86) and Hasantha Fernando (50). Gayan Sirisoma’s twin six-fers were supported by Dileepa Jayalath’s 4 for 21 in the first inning and Madhushan Ravichandra Kumar’s 4 for 88 in the second inning. Chasing a target of 119 runs, Bloomfield were home comfortably with 6 wickets in hand.

The fifties for Vinura Dulsara (68), Nimesh Perera (54), Ravishka Wijesiri (53*) and Suranga Rajaguru (50) helped Galle post a comfortable 333 for their first innings while Sathik Nimalsha claimed 6 wickets for Navy. Navy were bowled out for 182 runs in their first innings were forced to follow on. The fifties from Supun Leelaratne (73) and W Mayantha (52) and an unbeaten 70 from the wicket-keeper Shalith Fernando helped Navy secure a draw as they were 341/6 at stumps on the final day.

Air Force Sports Club vs. Police Sports Club
Suminda Lakshan’s (221) prodigious double ton and valuable contributions from Chamikara Hewage (67) and Aravinda Premaratne (63) helped Airforce Sports Club to post a mammoth 458 runs for their first innings. Police were bowled out cheaply for 142 runs and were forced to follow on with their second innings which then turned into an absolute run-fest. Fifty-plus scores for Maduranga Zoysa (90), Gitansh Khera (92), Asela Sigera 76, Ajit Indulkar (72) and Lakshan Rodrigo 52 meant nothing but shattered hopes of an easy win for the airmen. An exceptional come back from the Police SC helped them secure a draw out of which was almost certainly a victory for the Airforce.

After bowling out for Kurunegala Youth CC for 264 runs which came on the back of a fighting 99 from Randeer Ranasinghe, Kandy Customs declared their innings after they piled up 309 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. Ian Dev Singh (154*) shone with the bat while Navin Kavikara picked a five-wicket haul for Kurunegala Youth CC. Yet another high scoring encounter came to a tame draw when Kurunegala Youth batted through for two days to score 445 runs for the loss of 8 wickets. Ravindra Karunaratne (135) was the star with the bat for Kurunegala Youths while Avindu Theekshana (64*), Lahiru Jayaratne (59*) and Tharindu Wijesinghe (50) all scored fifties.
