Five games were worked off on the second day of the SLC Major League Tier ‘A’ tournament 2019/20 on Saturday (23rd), while another game began in Dombagoda.

Negombo CC vs CCC – Group A

The game which seemed likely to end as a low-scoring affair took a sudden twist as CCC, aided by skipper Ashan Priyanjan, Malindu Maduranga and Sri Lanka Youth cap Sonal Dinusha, compiled 369 for the 2nd innings. Winner of the Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year 2019 award, Lakshitha Rasanjana, picked 5 wickets for Negombo CC.

Chasing a target of 371, Negombo CC were well-placed on 65 for no loss at stumps.

Tamil Union C & AC started day 2 on a disappointing note, losing the final 4 wickets for just 52 runs following the dismissal of Ranmith Jayasena for 89 (overnight 81*). The Ragama boys then took over the mantle and started piling on runs as Saminda Fernando reached a century. Fernando remained unbeaten on 135, while Roshen Silva and Udara Jayasundera scored 51 and 43.

The game in Katunayake saw two brilliant performances; Lahiru Milantha with the bat and Asitha Fernando with the ball in the same innings. However, it was Milantha’s ton that proved more worthy as Badureliya CC were able to gain a 120-run lead despite Fernando’s 7-wicket haul. The Marians were on 81/2 in their 2nd innings at the close of play.
