Sri Lanka’s frontline seamer Nuwan Pradeep has been sidelined for six weeks due to a hamstring injury, and hence will not be part of the T20I series against West Indies.
Pradeep was uncomfortable after a delivery which he bowled during his 5th over in the 3rd ODI at Pallekele and immediately left the field, and was not able to return for the day. Sri Lanka has now been dealt a huge blow with the loss of their strike seamer; his absence will be truly felt in their T20Is match against the defending World Champions.
Asitha Fernando has been named as a replacement in the T20I squad in place of Pradeep.
Sri Lanka team manager Asantha de Mel also confirmed to ThePapare.com that all-rounder Dhananjaya de Silva will also miss the upcoming limited over series due to a wrist injury.
De Silva will need to undergo surgery in order to recover but will wait until the Test series against England is over to rejoin, indicating that the 28-year-old all-rounder will be part of the Test squad even though he was left out of the T20 squad.
A replacement for De Silva has not been named by Sri Lanka Cricket as yet.
