The Kenyans proved too strong for the Sri Lankan Tuskers as they thrashed Sri Lanka 41-00 in their Pool A encounter of 2014 Hong Kong Sevens worked off this evening.
Green and white Tuskers took the field for the first time in the 2014 Hong Kong 7s as Biko Adema kicked off the game. The Sri Lankans were way out of their depth as Kenya dominated the entire proceedings.
The only bright phases of the entire game for the Tuskers was when Shenal Dias turned over the ball from Kenyan possession and at the very end Mithun Hapugoda saved a certain try by stalling two opposition attackers.
Sri Lankans failed to get out of their own 22’ meter territory as Andrew Amonde scored the first unconverted try for Kenya in the 4th minute of the first half. Kenya continued their dominance as Dennis Ombachchi powered his way through to the 2nd Kenyan try followed by Collins Injera who ran a lovely angle to score his first try to finish an one side first half.
Half Time : Kenya 15 – Sri Lanka 00
After the one minute break, Srinath Sooriyabandara started off the second half and Kenyans scored their 4th try with Horace Otieno breaking through the Sri Lankan defense once again. Biko Adema and Oscar Ayodi scored two easy tries in space of only two minutes as Kenya showed their prowess in the 7 man game of rugby. Billy Adhiambo fended off Sandun Herath to score the last try of the match as Kenya cruised to an easy win over Asia’s 3rd placed Sri Lankan Tuskers.
Sri Lanka never reached their opponents 22’ meter territory and Kenyans enjoyed 90% of the possession to dictate the game completely.
New Zealander Richard Kelly refereed the game.
