Royal College Colombo took on traditional rivals Trinity College Kandy in their inter school cricket encounter which commenced today at the Royal College grounds.
Trinity College winning the toss elected to bat first and posted 217 runs on the board in 66.1 over’s. Diminutive middle order batsman Ravin Sayer top scored for the Lions with an unbeaten 47* runs while top order batsman Lakshan Jayasinghe scored 42. Opening batsman Rajitha Palihawadana and skipper Dinuk Wickramanayake also gave a hand with scores of 24 and 28 runs.
However the day belonged to the Royal College off spin bowler Poorna Aluthge who ended with impressive figures of 6/64. Aluthge who was on top of his game against the Trinitians managed to get a stumping, three catches, an LBW and one batsman bowled. It was a disciplined effort by the off spinner who took charge of the Royal College bowling. Hashen Ramayake also managed to take 3 wickets for 22 runs.
The home team batting in their first innings managed to end day one on 61 runs for the loss of 2 wickets with Imal Liyanage and Isuru Gunathilake back in the pavilion for scores of 18 and 13 runs respectively. Opening batsman Sampath de Silva was unbeaten on 18* runs while Hashen Ramanayake ended with 5*.
