Points System Prevails at U13 Singer Cup

Day two of the Singer Under 13 Division I cricket tournament pre quarter final stage was a stalemate as the three games that were played ended with no result. However, with the points system implemented, the teams that advanced to the quarter finals. Were selected.

In Moratuwa Prince of Wales hosted Kalutara Vidyalaya, who won the toss and opted to send the hosts in to bat first. Prince of Wales taking full advantage of the home ground posted a dominating score of 324/7 in 65 overs. Tharindu Amarasinghe (128) was ably supported by Dinuja Rampul (78*) and Shehan Rodrigo (52). Coming in to bat after a dismal performance with the ball Kalutara Vidyalaya was held to 85/4 in 33 overs at the close of play. Prince of Wales moved on to the next round on points basis.

In a 1 day 4 innings match the team batting first hardly gets the chance to rack up performance points. However, De Mazenod, Kandana proved it to be otherwise when they took on Mahanama College at the Kandana grounds. Mahanama winning the toss took first lease of the wicket and were able to post a modest total of 209/7 in 63 overs. Batting second De Mazenod looked comfortable and at the close of play were 190/4 in 45 overs. De Mazenod advanced to the next round on the points basis.

Moving onto Panadura where Royal College, Panadura hosted Isipathana College, Colombo in another pre quarter final fixture, it was a close contest between these 2 teams as Royal won the toss and elected to field first. Isipathana College was bundled out for 127 in 62 overs with Lasiru Sandaruwan getting an innings bag of 6/19. Royal College sensing a first innings win fell in trouble at the close of play when they were 116/9 in 50 overs. Royal College Panadura advances to the next round on points basis.
