Here’s a round up of the 2nd day’s play of the SLC Premier League Plate Championship matches that took place today (26).

Badureliya CC v Moors SC

Ramesh Mendis’ unbeaten 84 gave hope to Moors SC but they still trail by 147 runs in the first innings against Badureliya in their match at the BRC grounds. Day 2 began with 325 for 5 on the board for Badureliya, with skipper Alankara Asanka and Kosala Kulasekara in a middle of a big stand for the 6th wicket. Kosala who was in the 90’s reached his ton in quick time but soon got out, after which Badureliya collapsed. However, Asanka remained strong and he carried his bat through the innings to remain unbeaten on 144, with his team posting 383 runs.

In response, Moors started off well with opening batsman Pabasara Waduge scoring a half century. Their innings was taken by storm when they lost 3 wickets in quick succession, without scoring any runs which left them struggling at 96 for 6. Thanks to a gritty partnership by Ramesh Mendis and Anuk Fernando, their innings was saved from any more trouble. However, they are not yet out of deep waters as they are still way behind.

Negombo CC v SL Ports Authority CC

Port Authority CC were still trailing by 157 runs in the first innings at stumps on day 2 in their match against Negombo CC at the Moors grounds today. The 2nd day’s play resumed with Negombo CC 274 for 8 in their first innings. They managed to reach 350 with their remaining two wickets, thanks to an unbeaten 137 by Prasansana Jayamanne.

In response, Ports’ opening pair added a century stand. Primosh Perera and Yohan De Silva both reached half centuries but failed convert them to big scores. The rest fell apart against the bowling of Upul Indrasiri and Shehan Jayasuriya. Negombo have the upper hand going into the 3rd day.

BRC v Ragama CC

Sameera De Soyza’s unbeaten 155 gave the upper hand to Ragama CC on the second day in their match against BRC at the Bloomfield grounds. Play resumed with 60 for 3 on the board for Ragama. Sameera De Soyza was unbeaten overnight and got together with Saminda Fernando to add 132 for the 4th wicket. Saminda scored a reserved 55. He didn’t get much support from the lower middle order, but soldiered on and reached his century. Sanjaya Chathuranga hung around with his skipper for some time and at stumps it was Dineth and Sameera who remained unscathed
