Trinity College and St. Joseph’s College took first innings points, while S. Thomas’ College and Maris Stella College took command of the opening day in their respective games in the Singer Schools U19 Division 1 two-day cricket tournament.
St. Joseph’s College vs St. Sylvester’s College
The visitors, resuming on 72/5, were blown away in the morning session for 123 in 46.1 overs. Right-arm seamer Lakshan Gamage finished with 5/20, while Salinda Seneviratne claimed 4 wickets in the second day of group ‘D’ encounter which ended today at Darley road.
Coming in to bat in the second innings, the two senior players Jehan Daniel (45*) and Revan Kelly (46) stroked cameos to set up a 215-run target in the fourth innings for the boys from Kandy. However, the visitors held their nerve to bat out the overs and frustrate the hosts as the game ended in a draw, handing the Josephians first innings points.

DS Senanayake College vs Trinity College
Resuming on 130/5, the Trinity Lions declared their innings on 225/8 with help of Trevon Percival who guided them with an elegant 75. Coming in to bat in the 2nd essay DS Senanayake College fought back with an impressive 70 from right-hander Muditha Lakshan as they were restricted to 198 in their 2nd essay.
Chasing 94 to victory, the hosts had to be satisfied with a draw as they gained 1st innings points in the group ‘A’ encounter which ended in Asgiriya.

Been asked to bat first, the Thomians posted 261/8d inside 64 overs in the traditional encounter which began today in Mount Lavinia. Hard hitting all-rounder Kalana Perera was the standout player of the day making a cracking 73, while Maneesha Rupasinghe chipped in with a solid half-ton. In reply the Palians were struggling on 91/7 with left-arm spinner Dellon Peiris claiming figures of 4/19 which included a hat-trick as the Thomians ended the day on high.
The match will continue tomorrow for day two.

Left-hander Lasith Croospulle was the top scorer for the hosts with a classy 57. In reply the much fancied Peterites were bowled out for a paltry 111 in a 20 wickets day in Negombo.
The game will continue tomorrow with the hosts leading by 96.
