St. Anne’s College, Kurunegala overcame St. Anthony’s College, Kandy in the second semi-final of the Singer Schools U-19 Division I1 limited overs tournament 2017/18, which concluded today at the Asgiriya grounds.
Due to the prevailing weather conditions at Asgiriya, the match was reduced to 33 overs. St. Anne’s College skipper won the toss and had no hesitation to bowl first under cloudy conditions. The decision paid off as the hosts were bowled out for just 117 runs within 32.1 overs. Left handed Navodya Wijayakumara top scored with 27 runs for the Antonians. St. Anne’s left arm leg spinner, Pasindu Tennakoon, captured 4 wickets conceding only 21 runs and was instrumental in causing the batting collapse.
St. Anne’s College chased down the target with ease and qualified for the final of the Singer Schools U-19 Division II limited overs tournament. Sri Lanka U-19 cap, Wanitha Wanninayake top scored with 43 runs while Dhananjaya Bandara (23) and Kavindu Ranasinghe (22) chipped in with valuable contributions with the bat for the visitors. Spinner Nimnaka Jayathilaka captured 2 wickets for 20 runs for the boys from Katugasthota.
St. Anne’s College who were crowned runner-up in the U-19 Division II two day competition will now face Tissa Central College, Kalutara in the final of the Singer Schools U-19 Division II limited overs tournament. The final will be worked off on 17th May at Asgiriya grounds.
