Pasindu Sooriyabandara stars again for Western Province Central

Provincial Limited Overs Tournament 2018 were concluded today at Colombo. Southern Province and Western Province Central registered victories in their Group B fixtures against Eastern Province and Western Province South respectively.

Western Province South vs Western Province Central

Western Province Central registered their third consecutive win in the tournament today as they defeated Western Province South by 6 wickets at P. Sara Oval ground in Colombo. After being put into bat first, Western Province South was bowled out for a modest total of 182 runs in the allotted 50 overs.

Cambrian left-handed stroke maker Suwath Mendis was the top scorer for Western Province South as he made 53 runs. In addition, Sri Lanka U19 cap Nuwanidu Fernando (42) and Nishan Madushka (21) contributed with the bat for Western Province South.

In the bowling department, left arm seamer Kalana Perera and left arm spinner Dunith Wellalage starred with the ball as they bagged 3 wickets each for Western Province Central. Chasing 183 runs to win, Western Province Central lost a few early wickets but Pasindu Sooriyabandara who stroked a ton against Eastern Province in an earlier game, continues his good form with another fabulous knock of 81 runs to guide his side to victory.

Eastern Province vs Southern Province

Southern Province registered their third consecutive win in the tournament today as they defeated Eastern Province by 7 wickets at NCC ground in Colombo. Southern Province skipper won the toss and invited the opposition to bat first. Eastern Province batsmen struggled with the bat as they just managed to post 81 runs in 35.1 overs.

Sandun Mendis, Sasith Manuranga, Kavindu Rajapaksha and Dilum Sudheera picked up 2 scalps each for Southern Province. It was an easy target for the strong batting lineup of Southern Province as they raced away for the victory in 11.1 overs with 7 wickets to spare.

Two quick-fire cameos from Mihisal Amoda (38) and Vinura Dulsara (30) helped the Southern lads to chase the target in quick time. Southern Province continues their unbeaten run in the tournament with this third successive win and moved to the top of Group B.
