A Seasonal Best for Ganga at Paris 2024

As Ganga Senavirathne dived into Olympic waters at Paris La Defense Arena, she won her heat with a seasonal best time of 1:04.26. Senavirathne was ranked overall 30th in the women’s 100m backstroke preliminary round.

Senavirathne’s personal best time in this event is 1:04.08 which she achieved at the selection trial for world aquatic championships in April 2023 in Sri Lanka.

Looking back at Senavirathne’s journey to the Olympics, she was selected to represent Sri Lanka at Paris 2024 under the wild card system as the highest world aquatics point-holding female swimmer of Sri Lanka at the World Aquatic Championships in Doha 2024. She also represented Sri Lanka at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022, and multiple world championships, world school games, and many other international competitions. Senevirathne is a product of Killer Whale Aquatics and is an alumnus of Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo.

After the Olympics, she will be moving to Hungary for higher studies and foreign training under a scholarship by World Aquatics.

Kyle Abeysinghe is set to make his Olympic debut at La Defense Arena in lane 07 of the 4th heat of the Men’s 100m Freestyle event tomorrow at 14:53 local time.
