St. Joseph’s College, Colombo took major honours against S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia in their Singer-cup traditional encounter which began today at Darley road.
Thomian skipper Romesh Nallapperuma won the toss and opted to field first as St. Joseph’s College managed to put up 217 for 9 wickets in the opening day. The hosts were struggling on 126 for 6 at one stage, but they came back strong thanks to skipper Harin Cooray who made a brisk 49 and middle order batsman Pahan Perera stroked 47 crucial runs for the home team. Left-arm spinners Dellon Peiris and Pavith Rathnayake took 3 wickets a piece for the visitors.
In reply, the visitors were struggling on 13 for 3 as skipper Harin Cooray grabbed 2 wickets with his wily left-arm spin at close of play.

St. Sylvester’s College vs St. Joesph’s Vaz College
Both teams had to settle for a dead rubber as rain interrupted the game during the final day of play in a traditional encounter which concluded today at Albert F Pieris grounds. The visitors won the toss and opted to bat first as they posted a formidable 284 for 9 wickets earlier in the game as senior batsmen Avindu Herath, Manuja Perera and Nimsara Heshan scoring valuable half-tons for the lads from Kandy, Shehara Ranatunga completed a 4 wicket haul for the home team.
In reply the hosts were 142 for 4 at close of play, thanks to a superb knock by Hasitha Gihan as he top scored with 84 runs.
