Outstations’ last eight found, Bens in impressive start Carlton Cup Basketball

Angel International School, Jaffna, Gateway Int’l School, Kandy, St. Anne’s College, Kurunegala and St. Aloysius College, Galle finished the group stage in flying colours and qualified for the quarter-finals from outstation schools while St. Benedict’s College made an impressive start from Colombo schools, winning all their three matches, in the ongoing Under-14 Schools Carlton Cup Basketball Tournament, at Havelock Road, Colombo.

St. Benedict’s, playing in the Colombo Schools group, beat British School on Tuesday before overcoming Royal College and Royal Institute on Wednesday.

Meanwhile in the ‘A’ Division, Colombo BC got a fine start for the Carlton Cup ‘A’ Division Super-Eight Tournament when they beat HSC Blacks 61-58 at on Tuesday. Colombo BC were trailing 17-09 at the end of the first quarter but came good in the next three quarters to record their victory. The half time score read 49-42, in favour of Colombo.

Colombo’s foreign player J. Belic top-scored with 17 points while Blacks’ T. Neydorff scored 27 for the losing team.
