144

The Old Thomian Swimming Club (OTSC), Royal College Union Aquatic Club (RCUAC) & SSC registered victories in 4th week matches which saw Royal recording the highest margin of victory in terms of goal difference when they beat ACAC. Week 4 also saw changes in the top 3 position in the points table.

RCUAC vs ACAC

RCUAC met ACAC on the 25th of July in the Royal College Swimming Pool. Royal was the superior team on paper before this game and one can say Royal put up a magnificent display event far better than expected.

Royal recorded the highest victory in terms of goal difference when they beat Ananda 37-01. The difference of 36 goals is thus far the largest goal difference in this tournament.

From the beginning of the game Royal showed a different attitude for this game when compared to their other games in this season so far. They took very successful long range shots and Royal’s speed in water caused much trouble to Ananda.

For Royal it was their Captain Akila Weerasinghe who was the star performer with 9 goals but their surprise package was Gavin Shanuka who shot 8 goals. This could be the break out game in Gavin’s career as he has always been a silent supporter in the previous games. Royal’s Prop Yasodha Wasalage was unstoppable with 8 goals while Chandula Fernando scored 4. Basith Yakoob and Rifat Uwais scored 3 each while Yahiya Jaffer, Senith and Adhil Rasheed scored a goal each. For Ananda Kavindu scored the solitary goal in the last quarter which spoiled Royal’s plan of clean sheet.

It can be said Royal is shaping up right on time and Royal showed a lot aggression and were at all out attack which was missing in the previous games.

With this win Royal push down Army to the 4th position and climb up to the 3rd position.
