Sri Lanka fifteens and sevens represent Omalka Gunarathane and former national fifteens skipper Roshan Weeraratne will lead the Colombo origin and Outstation origin sides on 9th Tuesday.
The game that is played in aid of collecting funds for rugby legend Chandrishan Perera, will also act as a selection trial for the national fifteens side ahead of the Asia Rugby Division I Championship that will be held May.
Following the game, a 33-member national squad is to be finalized.
The squad will then take flight to Malaysia on 1st May 2019 to play two practice games with the Malaysian national side as a prep for the Division I tournament that will be played later in the month.
Colombo v Outstation origin battle – teams announced!
CR & FC #8 Omalka Gunarathane’s Colombo side will comprise of top talent from the concluded Dialog Rugby League such as Mithun Hapugoda, league winning skipper Richard Dharmapala and Rizah Mubarak.
The Outstation team that Roshan Weeraratne will provide leadership to will comprise of CR & FC skipper Kavindu Perera, CH’s Sathya Ranathunga and Dinuk Amerasinghe.
Kandy’s livewire in the forwards, Shehan Pathirana will be missing out due to injury while senior campaigner Dushmantha Priyadarshana is also set to miss out on the national selection due to injury.
The Colombo side will be coached by Viraj Prasanna while Fazil Marija will be in charge of the Outstation XV.
