Organized by the Royal College Group of 2001, the 14th consecutive, Royal College Old Boy’s Inter Batch ‘Cricket Carnival 2014’ will take place at the Bloomfield Grounds on September 14th, from 8.30 AM Onwards.

This annual event will see old Royalists from the Groups of 1969 to the Group of 2013 taking part. All former Reid Avenue students are also welcome and invited, to form teams and join in the fun.

A carnival atmosphere with live music, food stalls, kids play areas, DJ entertainment, Papare bands and surprises, await both young and old Royalists and their families. The primary goal of this event is to raise much-needed funds for College.

Three trophies will be in the fray: the E C Gunasekara Trophy for the ‘Over 40’ category and the Vijitha Weerasinghe Trophy for the ’30-40’ age groups whilst those playing in the ‘open category’ will take to the field in hope of bagging the L D H Peiris Memorial Trophy.

All proceeds collected from this memorable and fun filled day will go towards funding Royal College sporting activities, in the hope they will reach a celebrated status, producing future national level sportsman that the Alma Mater may be proud of.

As such, each year, the Carnival Committee picks one facet most needing development at that time and diverts funds to it. In 2013, the Group undertook the renovation and refurbishment of the Long Jump Pit, a vital element in empowering future athletes of the College.

It is the vision of the Group of 2001 that the development of sports will lead to the College producing better sportsmen, which will subsequently help to develop exceptional talent in the hope that one day they will represent Sri Lanka at the highest level, bringing glory to the country.

The Cricket Carnival has rapidly evolved to take pride of place in the Royal old boy’s social calendar as a permanent fixture; when camaraderie and merriment blend to support a worthy cause.

The success of the Carnival over the past 14 years has empowered it to evolve into one of the most anticipated and looked forward gatherings of Old Royalists in Sri Lanka.
