Sri Lanka’s only seamer from their historic Test win against Australia in Pallekelle, Nuwan Pradeep, has suffered a hamstring strain at training on Monday in Galle.
He will undergo a fitness test on Wednesday and remains doubtful for the all-important second Test match which starts on Thursday at the Galle International Cricket Stadium.
If ruled out, Pradeep will join Sri Lanka’s long, injury riddled list of fast-bowlers that includes Dhammika Prasad, Dushmantha Chameera and Suranga Lakmal. Lakmal was deemed unfit before the start of the Pallekelle Test which eventually turned out to be a blessing in disguise for the home team.
Since the beginning of 2015, Pradeep has taken 40 Test wickets in 13 matches and was by far the best fast-bowler for Sri Lanka in England.
Sri Lanka will once again go with only one seamer and three specialist spinners in Galle as the surface is likely to offer more spin than Pallekelle.
The other two seamers in the squad are the uncapped duo, left-arm seamer Vishwa Fernando and right-arm medium fast-bowler Asitha Fernando.
