Sabra Super Rugby 7s Tournament, which was organized by the University of Sabaragamuwa, was held at their picturesque home ground. Thirteen teams from Governmental and Private Universities participated in the tournament.
In the preliminary round, teams were drawn into four groups.
- Group A: University of Colombo, SLIIT, Old Sabaragamuwa
- Group B: University of Peradeniya, University of Moratuwa, Ocean University of Sri Lanka
- Group C: University of Kelaniya, NSBM, The Open University of Sri Lanka
- Group D: University of Sabaragamuwa, Uva Wellassa University, South Eastern University, SLTC University
After a few intense battles, NSBM, University of Colombo, University of Peradeniya along with hosts University of Sabaragamuwa were qualified for the Cup Semi Finals as the group top of respective groups. Furthermore, University of Kelaniya, University of Moratuwa, SLTC University and the team from SLIIT qualified for the Bowl Semi Finals as the second placed team of each group.
In the Cup Semi Finals, Sabaragamuwa lads bulldozed their way to victory against the University of Peradeniya as 44 – 00, while NSBM managed to win comprehensively against the University of Colombo by 31 – 07 points.
The University of Kelaniya team were the Shield Champions as they easily beat SLTC University, as the scores read 19 – 00.
The University of Moratuwa was able to defeat the formidable SLIIT side 17 – 07 to clinch the Bowl Championship.
Archrivals Peradeniya and Colombo Universities battled for the Plate Championship, and it was the day of Colombo as they managed to win the game with a 10 – 00 margin.
In the blockbuster game NSBM side was able to edge out the unbeaten hosts in the dying minutes of the game as they managed to beat the Sabaragamuwa side by 17 – 12 points.
