With a team abundant in star quality cricketers, Nondescripts Cricket Club (NCC) will be looking to continue their good run from last season in the 2016/17 edition of competition.
Even though they managed to claim the limited overs title, NCC would perhaps have been disappointed with their performances in the three day and T20 tournaments but will look to make their mark this season.
Bit of History
The club, founded in 1988, has a rich history boasting a proud record in the Sri Lankan first class cricket circuit. NCC has tasted success in the past couple of seasons with a T20 title and a second place finish in the Premier 3 day tournament. In 2014/ 15 NCC ended as runners-up in the Premier League and the semi-finalists in the T20 tournament while during last season NCC managed to win the T20 tournament.
Key Players
Farveez Maharoof will be leading the NCC outfit this season. The experienced all-rounder was influential in the final of the limited overs competition last season in which he made 34 with the bat and picked up 3 wickets for just 2 runs as NCC claimed the title. He will be looking to make an impression as he leads NCC towards glory.
Off spinner Tharindu Kaushal was a linchpin in the NCC bowling line-up last season. He managed 42 wickets in 9 matches and is expected to lead the spin bowling arsenal this season as well.
Test discard Jehan Mubarak was in scintillating form last season managing 654 runs in 9 matches with a best of 197 and an average of 50.30. The number three batsman will be hoping to use his years of first class experience to take his team forward as the mainstay in the NCC batting line-up.
Wicket-keeper batsman Niroshan Dickwella has been relieved of his keeping duties which will help him concentrate on his batting this season. Dickwella scored 388 runs in 5 matches last season, averaging 55.42 with a best of 137. It will be interesting to see how much of the season he will actually be available for however as the former Trinitian skipper has been in good form of late and will be looking secure his place in the Sri Lankan team.
