The Nondescript Cricket Club has been a pioneer in producing some of the greatest talents in this island in respect to the beautiful game for the last decade or so. The great Kumar Sangakkara along with current Sri Lanka team members such as Niroshan Dickwella and Dushmantha Chameera are some of them.
Once again NCC have come-forth with an initiative identifying the need in respect of developing women’s cricket at a tender age, as it is been understood that childhood development paves the way for better future prospects and a stronger domestic structure at the senior level.
Hence NCC have come up with a plan to embark on a girl’s cricket academy targeting the age group of 8-15 in which they believe the game could be cultivated and nurtured in raw talent.
Therefore, with the leadership of Mr.Dilip Somaratne the head of the academy program at NCC along with former Sri Lankan women’s team skipper and present member Randika Galhenage who will be conducting these sessions, the academy will be launched on the 25th of February.
Speaking to the media former Sri Lanka test skipper Hashan Thilakeratne expressed his views “NCC is an illustrious club in Sri Lanka and now we want to set foot on a new venture in which we will develop women’s cricket. We want to develop it to a level where someday we might see ladies big matches played in the Island. We want to start at a young age with these girls and develop them into players who will represent NCC and possibly Sri Lanka someday. The ICC provides funds to Sri Lanka Cricket in terms of developing women’s cricket and as a leading club in Sri Lanka we want to contribute to the cause”
