During  the  media briefing with regard to the 41st National Sports Festival was held today at the Sports Ministry Auditorium under the distinguished patronage of the Hon. Sports Minister Dayasiri Jayatilleke he expressed his views on the upcoming change of the sports law.

As the media briefing commenced Minister himself addressing the media spoke about the upcoming 41st National Sports Festival to be held on the 18th,19th and the 20th of December at the Mahinda Rajapakse Stadium.

Addressing the media he said “We have already organised all the events and confirmed the dates. All arrangements for the final three days are also finalised. The festival will cover the entire island from southern to north which is one important thing we have achieved this year”.

He also took his time to explain about the future change of the sports law and the methods of how the elections of the respective federations and associations will be held.

“We have removed the four-year rule and the voters will have to cast their vote with a show of hands at future AGMs”

said the minister as he explained that the maiden step for freeing sports from  politicization has been taken. The controversial four year rule which barred the re-election of any sports official who has served four years in a key office bearer position of a national sports body have been removed. These two significant changes has been gazetted to the amended sports law.
