The inter school cricket encounter between Gurukula College and Prince of Wales College kick started today at Prince of Wales grounds Moratuwa.
The visiting school won the toss decided to field first while the hosts exploited the chance to a great extent and scored a massive 258 runs for a loss of 9 wickets in 53.3 over’s. Kusal Mendis in evidence of his captaincy scored 85 runs inclusive of 13 fours and 1 six. Mendis who was one of the top batsmen during the previous season has continued his majestic form leading his team from the front.
Shanuka Dulaj who has been among the runs in the current season notched up a half century (56) while Suchila Fernando, Ashen Mendis and Krishane Fernando contributed 36, 22 and 35 runs respectively. Hashen Dumindu and Janith Pramod ran through the opposition with 4 and 3 wickets in 35 and 43 runs apiece.
When the score board read 40 over’s, the Visiting school in their 1st innings managed to score 163 runs for a loss of 4 wickets when play stopped on day one. Nithula Lakshan batted with ease and remained unbeaten scoring 99* runs in 121 balls which was inclusive of 12 fours and a six. Nipul Maduka was also unbeaten on 23* runs while Hashan Dumidu scored 20 runs. Jayanga Peiris representing the hosts chipped in 3 wickets for 23 runs.
