Nishan Peiris added to Sri Lanka squad for SSC Test

The National selectors have opted to add off-spinner Nishan Peiris to the Sri Lanka Test squad which will face England in the 3rd and final Test at SSC in Colombo this Friday (23), ThePapare.com learns.

 

The 21-year old, tall lad from Negambo has been named as the replacement of Akila Dananjaya, who will be not available for the match as he is set to fly to Brisbane to get his action tested.

Sri Lanka off-spinner Akila Dananjaya has been reported with a suspect bowling action during the first Test against.

Akila Dananjaya who picked up the best figures in a Test in Pallekele, 6-115, in the 2nd innings of the 2nd Test against England was reported for a suspect action after the 1st Test in Galle.

Akila has been given 14 days to get the biomechanical testing done, and was expected to do the testing in the ICC-approved testing centre in Chennai. However due to the ongoing upgrades in the Channei testing centre SLC have opted to send Akila to the ICC-approved testing centre in Brisbane, Australia.

Earning his maiden call-up to a National squad, Nishan Peiris has been on the selectors’ radar for quite a while. Playing for the Sri Lanka Board XI in the warm-up games against England he picked up 3 wickets in the 1st warm-up game.

A former Sri Lanka U19 cap, Peiris has taken 38 wickets in 12 first-class matches with an impressive average of 29.52. The off-spinner with so much potential in promise in him represents Ragama CC in the domestic circuit.
