An unbeaten 105 from Nimesh Lakshan helped Thurstan College beat St. Peters College and advance to the final in the Singer under 17 Division 1 school cricket final.
Winning the toss and batting first at Moors grounds, Thurstan College managed a fabulous 289 for the loss of 6 wickets in their allotted 50 overs.
Nimesh Lakshan was the lynch pin in the Thurstan batting scoring an unbeaten 105 as he drove Thurstan to their commanding total. Imesh Viranga provided good support with a well-constructed 66.
Asitha Kiriella (2/43) and skipper Santhush Gunathilake (2/65) managed just 4 wickets between them as the Peterite bowling had no clear tactics to stop the Thurstan batting.
In reply, St. Peters were unable to live up to expectation as they fell 47 runs short of their target of 290.
Left handed Ranmith Jayasena (79) and Shevan Perera (41) worked out of their skin to keep Peters in contention but failed as Yeshan Wickramarachchi (3/37) and Sandaru Dias (2/47) helped dismantle the Peterite batting in 45.5 overs.
With this win. Thurstan College will battle it out against St. Sebastian’s College in the grand final of the Singer under 17 Division 1 school cricket final at Moors cricket ground on the 2nd of September.
