Sri Lanka Cricket has appointed 42-year-old South African Nic Pothas as their National Fielding Coach.
Pothas is a versatile wicketkeeper-batsman, who retired from first-class Cricket in 2011 having amassed over 11,000 runs in all forms and having taken over 500 catches.
Since he’s retirement from first-class cricket, Pothas has served as the Director of Cricket at Guernsey and most recently as the Academy Director at Leicestershire County.
Speaking on the appointment President SLC, Hon Thilanga Sumathipala stated,
“We always believe in engaging the best professional advice and technical support for our National Team, and this appointment is one such positive step. Our last few outings are showing a marked improvement in the batting and bowling both, however our fielding has been letting us down and Pothas joining the support team already in place will give the necessary boost to this important area.”
Pothas’ appointment has been directed by the recommendation of the Cricket Committee of SLC, headed by legendary Aravinda De Silva. He will join the coaching set-up from 8th August.
“The opportunity to be involved in the game at the highest level is not one that I could pass up.” Pothas said before the appointment.
