New Skipper to lead the Lions of the Hill Capital

Trinity College, Kandy, has appointed Reshan Bandaranayake as the Captain of the Trinity College Rugby team, ahead of the 2019 Schools Rugby season.

The young Full-back/Wing Three-quarter is one of the most senior campaigners who now has been given the privilege of captaining his alma mater in his third and final year. Bandaranayake first donned the red, gold and blue jersey in 2017 and has been a consistent member of the starting line-up.

Bandaranayake has represented Trinity College from the junior levels, and was a key player for the Lions having being a part of four Bradby shields.

Displaying great leadership skills in the team’s coaching tour in New Zealand, Reshan was the top pick for Captain, especially after being awarded the ‘Best Development Player’ by the Wellington Rugby Academy (WRA) in New Zealand.

Bandaranayake will be assisted by third year player Dhirendra Ratwatte, another outstanding player in the Trinity outfit. Playing as a lock forward – Ratwatte is reliable under the highball and lineouts, showing off his jumping skills. He was named the ‘Most Hardworking Player’ in the New Zealand tour.

With highly celebrated former coach Inthi Marikkar as the Rugby Director, and well-experienced Matt Lee heading the coaching department, expectations are high for Trinity to end the season with some silverware under their belt.

Trinity will take on the underdogs, Zahira College at Maradana in their first week, and meet the hard hitters, Joes and Pathana later on. However, hard work lies ahead of Bandaranayake and Ratwatte, as the league is just weeks away.
