Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association (SLSRFA) is in a desperate attempt to implement new rules for school’s coaches from the next rugby season (2016).
From next year Schools’ coaches should be qualified IRB level one coaches going through the course if they want to coach a school’s side. “We’ll introduce this from 2016 and the SLSRFA will have to stick by this rule” said secretary Susantha Mendis.
“We have to have good coaches, otherwise players get injured and also the taking of banned substance by players happens due to the lack of the knowledge of coaches said Mendis.
SLSRFA is also willing to ask for the issuance of a licence to school rugby coaches from the Sports Ministry.
He further said even foreign coaches must have that license, because we don’t know whether they are qualified or not “We’ll do this as well with the support from the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union. (AG)
