The islanders have not had a permanent head coach since Graham Ford resigned from his post at the end of the Champions Trophy in June. After Ford’s exit, SLC appointed fielding coach Nic Pothas as the interim head coach and he has overseen the national team in their series against Zimbabwe, India and Pakistan.
“We are in discussion with a couple of coaches, around 3-4 personnel including Nic Pothas. We will finalize the appointment at the end of this year and hopefully by January next year, we will have a new permanent head coach.” Sri Lanka Cricket CEO Ashley De Silva stated at a press briefing earlier today.

The position of Head Coach at Sri Lanka Cricket is no longer an appealing one as over the last 7 to 8 years, Sri Lanka has employed 9 different coaches. Pothas has had a tough time of it during his time as interim coach, with Sri Lanka suffering heavy defeats, particularly in the limited overs formats, throughout the year.
“We have not yet decided if Pothas would be the interim head coach for the upcoming India tour.” De Silva further said.
