The Zahira College administration has appointed Tuan Zaid Thajudeen, as the Captain of the first XV Rugby team for the year 2019.
The young loose forward has been the go-to man in the flanks for Zahira College, since their year of promotion in 2016. Known by many as ‘Cheena’, Thajudeen is fearless in defense, rarely missing any tackles. He’s also a specialist in winning turnovers and making cheeky moves for his side, and is always well-aware of what is happening around him.
Zaid Thajudeen in action against DCK in last year’s league match
Thajudeen will be assisted by one of the most senior members in the team, Shamahil Soweito, a third-year player who will occupy the Centre position. Despite being ruled out after an injury in the first week of last year’s league, Soweito is back to full strength and ready to fight for his team.
Although Zahira fields a fairly inexperienced team, Thajudeen says he’s confident about the team and that the composition of the team is well-balanced.
This will be Zahira’s third consecutive year playing in the top division – and with a new Coach, new Captain and a revamped team, the Maradana underdogs will hope for a top 4 finish.
