Negombo Youth stun Solid with a sterling comeback; Durel scores a hat trick

Kasun Jayasuriya and H.Peiris set up the unthinkable as they came from two goals down to draw Solid in the final 12 minutes at Solid’s own den.

Solid raced to a comfortable 2-0 lead inside the opening 23 minutes and were cruising along with till the final quarter when things quickly changes sour for the hosts. Kasun Jayasuriya, the veteran striker halved the Solid lead in the 78th minute and Negombo Youth went into overdrive in search of the equalizer.

They found the equalizer two minutes from time through Peiris stunning the Solid contingent. It was an important point for Negombo Youth who are fighting with Solid, Navy and Colombo FC for the championship and it was a not the result Solid wanted, especially at home where they’ve had a strong record.

For Solid, their energetic start was rewarded when Anton Ranjan scored inside the first ten minute and doubled the lead in the 23rd minute. 

 

Army fires New Youngs

Five different scorers went on the score sheet as the free scoring Army romped to a 5-1 win over New Youngs at the Kelaniya Football Complex.

Darshana Udayanga opened the scoring in the 12th minute from a header while Sajith Kumara made it 2-0 five minutes later. Madushan De Silva added the third in the 27th minute and Mohomed Issadeen made it 4-0 in the 34th minute. New Youngs had some respite when Mohomed Mushikan scored New Youngs first but they had no way through the Army defense thereafter.  

New Youngs stemmed the rate of scoring in the second half as only Nuwan Rajapakse managed a way in, in the 77th minute. 

 

Nandimithra turns it up in the second half 

Manoj Kumara’s brace helped Nandimithra over turn a 1-0 first half deficit to win against Crystal Palace 3-1 at the Sugathadasa Stadium.

Crystal Palace dominated the opening half to lead 1-0 through Isaac Aba in the 17th minute. Nandimithra were livened in the second minute of the second half when Kumara scored his first and took the lead in the 65th minute.

With a panicked Crystal Palace searching for their second Nandimithra took advantage to make it 3-1 through the boot of Weeramanthree.  

 

Durel’s hat trick lifts Don Bosco 

George Durel scored a half hat trick as Don Bosco defeated New Youngs 4-2 in a goalfest.

The first half ended in a thrilling fashion as both sides scored late in the half to make it 2-2. However Don Bosco ran away with the game in the second half with Durel completing his hat trick.

It was Mohomed Mushikan who scored in the 16th minute giving New Youngs the lead. P.Silva made it 1-1 while Durel’s first in the 45th minute took the score to 2-1 in favour of Don Bosco.However in first half injury time Pradeep equalized ending the half 2-2.

Durel scored his second and third in the 52nd and 61st minutes respectively to secure the win.

 

Navy bounce back to win 

Putting their shock loss to Blue Star last week behind Navy came from a goal behind to win 2-1 against Matara City at the Matara City Complex.

First half ended goalless but Victor Ikenna gave Matara City the lead in the 53rd minute. Chalana Chameera evened the scores in the 64th minute and Sri Lanka captain Chathuranga Sanjeewa scored the winner in the 75th minute.
