NDB Bank Qualifies for the Semi-Finals

Four matches of the 26th Mercantile Basketball League was played on the fourteenth day of the tournament with the NDB women`s team qualifying for the semi-finals of the tournament.

NDB Bank (Women) v David Pieris Motor Company (Women)

The B division women`s encounter was played as the first match for the day at Hendry Pedris Stadium. NDB bank led the game by seven points going into half time as the scoreboard read 21-28.

Natasha Perera, doing most of the scoring, added twenty-two points for NDB Bank and top scored in the game. Hansini Ariyaratne helped the cause with fifteen points. Tharushi Alwis scored twelve points for the opposing team while Kodikara added eleven.

Coming into the second half of the game NDB bank scored twenty points while David Pieris Motor Company scored twenty-three points. The early lead meant that NDB Bank finished ahead to win the final group stage match and qualified to the semi-final stage of the tournament as the final scoreboard read 48-44.


NDB Bank (Men) v David Pieris Motor Company (Men)   

The C division men`s encounter was played as the second match for the day at Hendry Pedris Stadium. The game was well set for a nail biter as both teams were on equal terms on the scoreboard with the scores on 29 all during half-time.

Mohamed Fawshan doing most of the scoring in the game for NDB Bank top scored in the game with twenty-nine points while Jude Perera chipped in with nineteen points. Nalaka Kumarasinghe scored nineteen points for David Pieris Motor Company while Thanishka Wanigaratene added nine points.

Going into the second half and cutting the game wide open, NDB Bank added thirty-five points while David Pieris Motor Company added twenty-five points. NDB emerged victorious as the final scoreboard read 53-64.


Mobitel (Women) v MAS Holdings (Women)

The B division women`s encounter was played as the third match for the day at Otters AquatIc Club. Mobitel trailed the game by eleven points into half time as the scorecard read 26-15.

Shimali Yatagama added fourteen points for MAS Holdings and top scored in the game while Geshani Lahirunika scored ten points. Ranasinghe scored eleven points for Mobitel and Dissanayake score eight.

Mobitel scored fifteen more points into the second half of the game while MAS Holdings replied with nineteen points. MAS Holdings came out on top at full time as the scoreboard read 30-45.


MAS Blacks v Standard Charted Bank

The D division game was played as the final game for the day at Otters Aquatic Club. Both teams came out all guns blazing as they leveled the scores at half time 22 all.

Rishan Yousuf scored thirteen points in the game to top score while his team-mate Suranga added ten points for Standard Charted Bank. Iruka Rathnayake scored ten points for MAS Blacks while Mahesh Fernando added nine points.

The game went right down to the wire in the 2nd half as MAS Holdings added fifteen points while Standard Charted managed seventeen points. MAS emerged victorious by a slender 2 point margin as the final scores read 39-37.
