Navy A defeated CR & FC A 21 points 17 to clinch the cup championship of Dialog inter club sevens which was worked off over the weekend at the Racecourse International stadium.

Thilina Weerasinghe kicked off the grand final. Kavindu Perera opened the scoring for CR & FC A as he scored a stunning try by fending off three Navy defenders. Tharinda Ratwatte couldn’t add the crucial extra points.
Mohamed Absal replied straight away with a try as he found a gap in the CR defense and went over for the first try for Navy. Thilina Weerasinghe added the extras. (Navy 07 – 05 CR)
After a few attacking phases, CR’s Tharinda Ratwatte opted to spread the ball to the corner for Kavindu Perera to score his second try. Ratwatte managed to add the important two points.Nivanka Prasad took a quick tap and went through the CR defense to equalize the score. Weerasinghe’s conversion was perfect.
Half Time – Navy A 14 – 12 CR & FC A
CR started the second half on a high as Kavindu Perera scored his hat-trick to put his side in on top. Ratwatte’s conversion was unsuccessful.
Buddima Priyarathne scored an excellent try as he stepped in and found an overlap in the CR defense and went over for a vital try. Thilina Weerasinghe converted this try.
Navy managed to hold on to the lead to clinch the Dialog inter club sevens.

The games kicked off earlier today with the cup quarterfinals where the top two teams of the four groups qualified for the four big games.
First quarter–final was a clash between two heavyweights Navy A vs Havelock SC where theSailors came up trumps by beating the park club 19 to 7. Police got the better out of the Navy B side. Army SC was comprehensively beaten by the Air Force SC and the final semifinals spot was clinched by CR & FC A.

After four exhilarating games the tournament moved on to the Bowl quarterfinals where the four teams which lost the cup quarterfinals met with the four teams which finished the third in the group stages yesterday.

Winner of the Bowl quarterfinals moved towards the Bowl semifinals and the four teams which was defeated moved to the shield semifinals.
The Dialog inter club sevens moved back to cup competition with the semifinals taking centre stage. It was two exciting games as Navy A humiliated Police SC while Airmen once again failed to get the better out of the CR & FC A .Police SC and Air Force A will now face in the plate final.
