In a stop start game plagued with basic errors, Police SC was able to find their feet and keep their focus long enough to overcome Navy SC in Welisara today. The win by Police means they’ll meet the same opposition at Police Park at the super round in a bid to secure the Plate Championship.

Sachith Silva kicked things off for the cops but that was all he could do right with the boot this evening and to add to his woes it was his error in judgment that helped Navy open the scoring.
An early infringement by the Police defense gave up a penalty right in front of the sticks and Navy fly half Chathura Senevirathne obliged, slotting in the 3 points. (Navy SC 03 – Police SC 00)
Radeesha Senevirathne was found offside and Navy had to pay for their indiscipline at the breakdown. Janith Chandimal bisected the sticks to draw level. (Navy SC 03 – Police SC 03)
The Police back-line who found some rhythm and some good offloading, opened up the Navy defense for Emosi Vunivosa. Mohan Danushka put in the finishing touches via a drive close to the try line. (Navy SC 03 – Police SC 08)

Navy was able to bounce back straight away owing to a miscommunication by Police in receiving the kick-off. Viraj Colomboarachchi went over this time for the Sailors and Chathura Senevirathne converted the try. (Navy SC 10 – Police SC 08)
Emosi Vunivosa showed his class once again in open play as he exploited the unsecured Navy blindside with a pick-and-go, shimmied around the last defender and went over for the try. Janith Chandimal added the two points. (Navy SC 10 – Police SC 08)

Nirosh Perera was sent off for a dangerous tackle on Mohan Danushka. With the game in the balance the Sailors couldn’t afford to be a man down.
Navy was found guilty once again at the breakdown, in their own half and to top it off it was in front of the sticks as well. Janith Chandimal accepted the present with glee and slotted in the 3 points. (Navy SC 10 – Police SC 18)
The numbers game was catching up with the Sailors and with Police mounting the pressure, the Navy ship was taking on water. Muammer Deen was the beneficiary as he made use of the overlap and went over for the cops. (Navy SC 10 – Police SC 23)
Navy scored a try against the run of play, capitalizing on some sloppy rugby by Police SC. The play was finished off by Nirosh Perera who made up for his earlier yellow card with the try. It was converted by Charith Senevirathne. (Navy SC 17 – Police 23)
The Sailors were made to pay once again for their indiscipline at the breakdown as they gave up yet another penalty from a favorable angle for Police SC. Janith Chandimal knocked down the 3 points which gave Police an unassailable lead. (Navy SC 17 – Police SC 26)
