Subash Siriwardane of the Sri Lanka Navy who was the runner up of the Mr. Srilanka 2011, was crowned the Mr.Srilanka 2012 at the 65th body building competition this evening.
He received his trophy from Vinayagamurthi Muralidaran, the Deputy Minister of Resettlement. . And also he was selected the best ‘adducer’ of the tournament.
The contest was organized by the Srilanka Body Building and Fitness Association, in collaboration with the Ministry of Sports and the Sponsors were Lanic Sports, Nature’s secrets, Opnim productions, Bansons, Harcourts, Sports nutrition, Eteam event management and body building.lk.
Over 140 competitors flaunted their bodies to become the Mr. Srilanka 2012 but it was Subash who was crowned Mr. Sri Lanka for 2012 winning himself a cash prize of RS. 100000 while W.A.D. Chalaka was rewarded with Rs 50,000 as he took up runners up of the contest. Udara Mendiis who represented the Sri Lanka Air force was honored as the 3rd in the contest and was awarded with a cash prize of 25,000.
There were 10 categories of the contest and Washir Mohommad of Kandy was the first to get on to the stage to receive the trophy for the champion of the under 21 age category. Majid Rish Mohommad, who gave a great competition to Washir was adjudged 2nd while Mass Mohommad came in third.
The 55kg weight class was won by I.G.Wasantha Peiris. Giving him a close run was H.M.R.B Tennakoonin 2nd place while B.M.M. Mendis won 3rd place.
The Sri Lanka Air Force Sports club had a very commendable season as it took ownership of medals for many events.
Hon. Minister for sports, Mahindananda Aluthgamage, M.C. Danasiri Amaraatunga, Mayor of dehiwala Mt. Lavinia, Siril Perera, Minister of Western province and many more attended the ceremony. And it was revealed that with the participation of 29 countries, and 200 competitors, the Asian body building contest will be held in Srilanka in 2014.
