Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has appointed Naveed Nawaz as the Head Coach of Bangladesh U19 Cricket Team.
Nawaz will replace Stuart Law, who joined as head coach of USA national cricket team. He will also work as the Batting Consultant for junior age group teams under BCB Game Development program.
Nawaz had previously worked as the Head Coach of Bangladesh U19 for two years from 2018 to 2020. It was a successful stint for Nawaz as he managed to guide Bangladesh side to clinch the 2020 ICC Under 19 World Cup held in South Africa. It was Bangladesh’s first ever major trophy in an ICC tournament.
After the tenure with Bangladesh U19 Team, Nawaz joined Sri Lanka national team as the assistant coach in April 2022. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) parted ways with Nawaz as his two-year contract came to end last month.
BCB had shortlisted three coaches for the U19 Head Coach position: Naveed Nawaz (Sri Lanka), Ijaz Ahmed (Pakistan) and Wasim Jaffer (India).
With plethora of experience as a coach and having knowledge to the position and familiarity with Bangladesh setup, Nawaz got the nod ahead of other candidates as BCB penned a two-year contract with the 50-year old Sri Lankan. His two-year appointment will be effective from the 1st July, 2024.
