The national selection trials for the Asian Athletics Championship and Asian Games which kicked off on the 17th of September, ended yesterday (18th) at the Diyagama Mahinda Rajapakse Stadium.
Men’s Events
In the first event of the day, which was the Men’s 10,000m event, D. Gunasekara registered 1st place with a timing of 30:31.51. K. Shanmugeshwaran and P.Maduranga clinched 2nd and 3rd places with timings of 30:56.19 and 30:23.17 respectively.

Kalinga Kumarage clinched the Men’s 200m title after clocking 21.11s while Mohommad Safan and D. Gayashan won 2nd and 3rd place. In the Men’s 1500m race, H. Kumara won with a time of 3:46.12, while Roshan Dhammika won the 110m hurdles event.
Women’s Events
The main attraction of the 2nd day was the Women’s 200m event and Medhani Jayamanne managed to obtain first place with a time of 24.32s. Nadeesha Ramanayake and M.Fernando won 2nd and 3rd place respectively.
Gayanthika Abeyratne continued her domination in the 1500m event as she won 1st place comfortably registering a time of 4:13.20. Another who retained her crown was Lakshika Sugandi who won the 100m hurdles event clocking 13.84s.
