Pavan Rathnayake ton helps Dambulla win NSL Title

Team Dambulla crowned champions of the National Super League 50-Over Tournament 2024 as they beat Team Kandy by 19 runs in the final worked-off today (10th March) at R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo.  

After winning the toss, Dambulla skipper Minod Bhanuka opted to bat first, and they managed to post a mammoth total – 332/4 on the board in the allotted 50 overs. 

Pavan Rathnayaka struck a brilliant century, while Sanoj Darshika and Minod Bhanuka chipped in with vital half-centuries. Rathnayaka hit an unbeaten 118 runs off 108 balls with 10 fours and 3 sixes at a strike rate of 109.26. 

In reply, Team Kandy also put on an impressive batting display, but they fell short of the target by 19 runs. Kamil Mishara (94) and Lahiru Udara (86) struck fighting half-centuries. 

Ayana Siriwardana and Dushan Hemantha starred with the ball, snaring 3 wickets each for Team Dambulla. The victorious Dambulla Team managed to win the NSL 50 Overs Championship for the second consecutive year after clinching the title last year, beating Jaffna in the final.
