Team Kandy managed to take firm grip at the end of third day’s play of their encounter against Team Colombo in the National Super League 4-Day Tournament 2025 played at Mahinda Rajapaksha International Cricket Stadium, Hambantota.

Team Kandy began their second innings with a massive lead of 354 runs and posted 244 runs for 3 wickets before declaring their innings.

The middle-order batter Nuwanidu Fernando struck his 12th first-class century while the opening batter Janishka Perera contributed with valuable 93 runs.

Chasing a mammoth target of 599 runs to win, Team Colombo got off to a decent start putting on 85 runs for 1 wicket at the close of play on Day 3.

In the other encounter played between Team Galle and Team Dambulla, the former was in a strong position at the close of play on Day 3 at Galle International Cricket Stadium.

Team Galle began their second innings 6 runs ahead and posted 244 runs with top contributions from Ramesh Mendis (56), Dunith Wellalage (46) and Oshada Fernando (44).

The off-spinner Akila Dananjaya once again stood out with the ball for Team Dambulla, scalping 5 wickets in the second innings. He claimed a seven-fer in the first innings, taking his match tally into 12 wickets for 163 runs.

Chasing 251 runs to win, Team Dambulla were in dire straits losing 6 wickets for 27 runs. The left-arm spinner Dunith Wellalage bagged 4 wickets for 3 runs.
