National Super League 4-Day Tournament kicked off today (18th January), with two encounters taking place on the opening day at Colombo (SSC) and Hambantota.
Team Colombo skipper Prabath Jayasuriya won the toss and opted to bat first against Team Jaffna in the first match on a batting-friendly surface at SSC.

Team Colombo managed to post a solid total – 275/4 on the board on the opening day thanks to well-compiled half-centuries made by Nuwanidu Fernando, Shevon Daniel and Himasha Liyanage.
Fernando was the top scorer for Colombo as he made an unbeaten 90 runs off 230 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes. The seaming all-rounder, Lahiru Madushanka, picked up 2 wickets for 32 runs for Team Jaffna.
In the second match between Team Kandy and Team Galle, Ramesh Mendis – the Galle skipper, decided to field first after winning the toss at Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in Hambantota.
Lahiru Udara’s brilliant century and vital half-centuries by skipper Sahan Arachchige and Ahan Wickramasinghe helped Team Kandy post a massive total – 339/6 on the board in the first day.

Udara hit 100 runs off 128 balls with 15 fours, while Arachchige and Wickramasinghe contributed 81* and 63 runs, respectively.
