Kandy took on Galle at the R Premadasa while Jaffna and Dambulla locked horns at the P Sara Stadium to kickoff the National Super League semis for 2023.
Galle dominated proceedings on day 1, with Sohan de Livera hammering 133 as they cruised to 356/3 at stumps. The 22-year-old opener put together partnerships of 59, 91 and 139 for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd wickets to ensure that Kandy got no foothold on day one. He fell just about an hour before stumps but former Royalist Pasindu Sooriyanbandara continued the momentum for Galle, going into the end of the day’s play on 95 not out.
Amshi Silva, Lasith Embuldeniya and Sachithra Perera picked up the 3 wickets to fall, but had to toil hard on a flat RPS track.

Dambulla vs Jaffna
In the 2nd semi-final, Jaffna chose to field at the P Sara in Colombo, but the Dambulla openers Gayan Maneeshan and Abhishaek Liyanarachchi took the upper hand early on, putting on 60 for the first wicket. Maneeshan went to a half century, but it was Pavan Rathnayake who held things together, putting together a well-composed knock of 117 off 148 deliveries.
Left-arm orthodox bowler Shashika Dulshan was the most impressive of the 8 bowlers used by skipper Minod Bhanuka, picking up 3/86 to keep the boys from Dambulla down to 289/5 at stumps on day 1.
