Teams Dambulla & Galle are sitting in commanding positions in the ongoing National Super League Semi-final games as the third day of play came to a close today (25).
Dambulla vs Jaffna
Following a collective batting effort from team Dambulla on day 2, which was led by Pavan Ratnayake, they had managed to leave Jaffna with an overnight score of 220 runs for the loss of 7 wickets.
It only took 8 overs into day 3’s play for Wanindu Hasaranga to clean the tail and end the innings with a 6-wicket haul. The world’s top-ranked T20I spinner showed some of his masterful skills in the longer format too.
The centurion from the first innings, Pavan Ratnayake, got off to solid start, having all his bearings set for yet another long knock. Dambulla came out to bat in their second innings, but unfortunately edged one to the wicketkeeper off a Janith Liyanage-delivery on 47 runs.
Dambulla had a sudden slip from 106 for 2, when Ratnayake departed to 131 for 4 when Wanindu Hasaranga walked out to bat. The right-hander was probably still stuck in his T20 mode as he smashed a 66-ball 95 runs with 6 sixes and 7 fours.
Thanks to his innings, Dambulla are now 444 runs ahead of Jaffna with a whole day’s play left for tomorrow.

Kandy vs Galle
Fast bowler Kavishka Anjula and the young gun Dunith Wellalage wrecked the Kandy innings altogether to minimize them for 227 runs in response to the mammoth 658 runs posted the Galle batters.
Although Kandy as a whole did struggle with the bat, Ahan Wickremasinghe, who is having a brilliant tournament with the bat, kept his form going. It was thanks to his fighting 84 runs that Kandy have even the bare minimum that is on their total column.
Coming out to bat in their second essay, Galle Skipper Sangeeth Cooray and No. 3 batter Lakshan Edirisinghe have put on a 138-run partnership at close of play. Galle have the stronghold of the game with a lead of 576 runs.
