National Super League 4-day Tournament 2023 came to an end today at Galle International Stadium, Team Dambulla crowned champions in the final.
Chasing 258 to win, Galle have lost 2 early wickets in the morning as Pathum Kumara & Suminda Lakshan were dismiss for 26 & 0, respectively. Then, Dunith Wellalage & Kavishka Anjula put a 42-run stand for the 9th wicket, but that hadn’t help them when chasing 250+ score on Galle pitch.
In the end, Team Galle blown away for 182, Dunith Wellalage remained not out on 52 as Team Dambulla, led by Minod Bhanuka became champions for the 1st time in NSL 4-day Tournament, beating Team Galle by 75 runs. Once again, the premier spinner in Sri Lanka, Wanindu Hasaranga produced another impressive spell of 5/44 while Lahiru Samarakoon performed well with figures of 4/60.
In the awards ceremony, Ramesh Mendis was adjudged as the player of the tournament. A sum of 50 million rupees were awarded to Team Dambulla who became the champions while 25 lakh rupees awarded to the runner-up side.
Team Kandy’s Ahan Wickramasinghe became the best batter who was the top scorer in the tournament, scored 448 runs in 7 innings at an average of 64. Dambulla’s skipper Minod Bhanuka also shined with the bat as he was just 3 runs in behind of Ahan’s 448 while Kandy’s Sandun Weerakkody crossed 400-run mark.
On the other hand, Shashika Dulshan, who played for Jaffna, awarded him the best bowler, led the bowling charts with 22 scalps while Kavishka Anjula & Lasith Embuldeniya picked 19 & 16 wickets, respectively.
