The fifth and final week’s matches of the National Super League 4-Day Tournament 2023 got underway today (16th February) at Galle and Hambantota.
Colombo vs Dambulla
Team Colombo skipper Charith Asalanka won the toss and opted to bowl first at Mahinda Rajapaksha International Cricket Stadium in Hambantota.
Team Dambulla got off to a shaky start losing 3 top-order wickets for just 48 runs. However, the skipper Minod Bhanuka revived Dambulla innings building a vital partnership of 77 and 74 with Sanoj Darshika and Ashan Priyanjan for the 4th and 5th wickets respectively.
After the departure of Bhanuka for 73 runs, the experienced campaigner Priyanjan took the responsibility into his hands and carried Team Colombo to a respectable total on day one, scoring a brilliant century.
Priyanjan remained unbeaten on 100 runs off 167 balls with 9 fours as Team Colombo finished day one on 297/6.

Galle vs Jaffna
Team Galle skipper Sangeeth Cooray won the toss and was elected to field first at Galle International Cricket Stadium. The decision turned out to be an important one, as they bowled out Team Jaffna for a mere total of 130.
The seamer Mohammed Shiraz had Jaffna in all sorts of trouble with the new ball as he managed to claim a 5-fer. The spin duo Akila Dananjaya and Kaumal Nanayakkara also chipped in with 2-wicket hauls each.
In reply, Team Galle showcased a much better batting effort posting 193/4 at the close of play on day one. The opening batter Sohan de Livera was the chief contributor with the bat as he made an unbeaten century.
