National Beach Volleyball Coach Prasanna Udayakumar has passed away after meeting with a fatal car vs train motor accident last morning.

Coach Udayakumar and 3 others were on their way to a wedding in Seeduwa when the car driven by him collided with a train at the Veyangoda-Pattigoda railway crossing. The collision proved to be fatal for all 4 passengers in the car.

The late Udayakumar has functioned as the head coach of the Sri Lanka Beach Volleyball team since 2003 and during those 14 years he has guided the team in 29 international tournaments. Under his tenure, Sri Lanka has claimed 11 medals at international events, including Gold Medals at the SAF level.

The late coach’s remains lie at Bandaranayake Mawatha, Bulanawewa, Devahuwa, Galewewa with his final rites to be performed tomorrow (22nd November).
