The race for national selections begins with the National and Junior National Short Course Swimming Championship coming alive on the 6th April, at the Isipathana Swimming Pool Complex.

The first national level swim meet for the year 2019, the short course championship is expected to attract over 800 participants across 5 age groups, over the course of 4 days. The iconic Sugathadasa Swimming complex has been given a break this time around with the competition being in the shorter format (25m) and the swimmers are ready to christen the Isipathana pool with 4 days of fierce competition.
Age groups starting from the under 11 girls and boys ranging all the way up to the 18 & over category will see light at the competition with four major championship titles up for grabs; Nationals Boys and Girls Overall, Junior National Boys and Girls Overall, National Boys and Girls Individual and the Junior National Boys and Girls Individual.

An individual champion at the 2018 All Island School’s Swimming Championship, Aniqah Ghaffoor is expected to return from her base in Thailand for the championship to make sure she retains her recently gained status in the record list in the short course format.
Other star performers in the likes of I E Senanayake of Sri Lanka Army, A Kalyanasundaram of Lyceum International Wattala, Chris Pavithra of Lyceum Nugegoda, Ganga Senevirathne of Visakha Vidyalaya, Nahbashie Perera of Sirimavo Balika and hundreds of other big names are expected to compete on the 6th, bringing in the heat.
