The National and Junior National Short Course Swimming Championships 2023, organized by the Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union, is scheduled to start from today the 26th of December to the 30th of December 2023, as a 5-day meet at Hillwood College, Kandy Swimming Pool.
This competition is for the fastest swimmers who have achieved the National and Junior National qualification times, and 289 swimmers from 46 island-wide schools and clubs are set to race each other in the last week of 2023 in 89 events which include both individual and relay events. The National Championship is open to swimmers who are 13 years and above. In the junior category, swimmers who are 13 and 14 years of age are eligible to participate.

A highlight of this year’s Nationals will be the team of 27 Maldivian swimmers representing the Swimming Association of Maldives.
In addition to this, the energy of the National Championship is brought back to Kandy after 5 years, with its last appearance being in 2017.
Killer Whale Aquatics are the current National Champions with their win at last year’s Nationals, and the Junior Champion titles are with St. Joseph’s College, Colombo and Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya.
