S. Thomas’ College dominated the opening day against Wesley College in their Singer-cup traditional game played for the M. Sathasivam Trophy which began today in Mount Lavinia.
Coming to bat at number 7, skipper Romesh Nallappuruma made an unbeaten 97 as they piled up 306, while left-arm spinner, Sakuntha Liyanage took a four wicket haul for the visitors. Opening batsman Dinura Gunawardana made a steady 62 off 176 balls while number five batsman Sithara Hapuhinna slammed a gleeful 43.
In reply the visitors were 24 for 1 at stumps.

Having won the toss Trinity College decided to take first lease of the wicket in their traditional encounter that began today at Darley Road.
Trinity College captain, Shanmuganathan Sanogeeth top scored for the visitors closely supported by Trevon Percivei with a half-ton, while fast-bowler Ruchira Ekanayake bagged four scalps with skipper Harin Cooray ably supported the cause with four scalps of his own.
In response, the Josephians were placed strongly on 115 for 1 wicket in 22 overs. Young opener Camaron Duruge made an unbeaten half-ton while experienced Nipun Sumanasinghe stroked 48 at stumps.

Winnings the toss the hosts’ De Mazenod put their visitors in to bat first as Arosh Madushan starred for the Bandaranayake lads with an unbeaten century to carry them through to 263 all out. Roshitha Seneviratne led the attack for the home side as he bagged 4/82.
The Mazenodians in response were 34 none at stumps.
