Nalanda College and Isipathana College carried their good run by notching up outright victories while St. Peter’s College drew their game against Ananda College in the under 19 ‘Singer Cup’ division one tournament on Wednesday.
Dharmasoka College vs Isipathana College
Isipathana College continued their good form from last year with a massive win over Dharmasoka College at Surrey Grounds.
Isipathana won the toss and elected to bowl first. Off-spinner Ayana Siriwardane with a five-for for his team, rattled through the Dharmasoka batting line up, bundling them out for a mere 137.
In return, Isipathana put up brilliant performance with the bat with Ayana Siriwardane scoring 113 showing his all-round abilities. They posted 321 runs in their first innings in just 62.1 overs. The home team with a mammoth task ahead crumbled yet again in their second innings as Ayana and rest bundled them out for 168 runs giving them an innings and 16-run victory.
Dharmasoka – 137 all out in 40.4 overs: Dinuka Dilshan 23, Lahiru Dilshan 5/46, Ayana Siriwardane 5/58.
Isipathana – 321 all out 62.3 overs: Ayana Siriwardane 113, Pramod Maduwantha 64, Harshajith Rushan 3/53, Ushan Nimantha 3/99.
Dharmasoka (2nd inn) – 168 all out in 66.2 overs: Harshamal Rajith 39, Ayana Siriwardane 3/40, Pramod Maduwantha 2/17, Lahiru Dilshan 2/38.
Nalanda College vs Thurstan College
Nalanda College put up a fine bowling performance against Thurstan College in their first match for this year played at Campbell Place.
Thurstan won the toss and decided to put the home side to bat first. Nalanda managed to pile up a decent first innings score of 240 in 68 overs. Left-arm spinner Naveen Goonawardane starred with five wicket haul for Thurstan College.
The visitors struggled from the word go in their batting department. They were bundled out for a mere 117 runs in 48 overs. They were asked follow on by the home side but Thurstan could not show enough resistance to save the game as they were all out for 85 runs in 45.1 overs. Leg-spinner Kavidu Bandara took 4 wickets in each innings as he helped his team to an innings and 38-run victory

St Peter’s College vs Ananda College
The Peterites hosted Ananda College in their first match for the year at Bambalapitiya.
The visitors led by Nisal Fransisco won the toss and elected to field first. The hosts’ continued their inconsistent run with the bat as they were bowled out for just 153 in 56.5 overs. Sachin Fernando and Lakshina Rodrigo chipped in with valuable cameos of 35 and 24 respectively while Dileepa Jayalath took 4 scalps for the team from Ananda Mawatha.
Ananda College came on to bat with a reachable target ahead of them but it was Taneesha Weerakoon who stood in their way. The Peterite spin wizard bagged 6 wickets for 38 runs and narrowly saved his team from a first innings defeat. Ananda College were bowled out for 153 runs in 54.3 overs, making it tie.
The home side turned the heat up in the second innings thanks to a scintillating knock by Sri Lanka U19 discard, Lakshina Rodrigo. His knock of 114 runs showed dominance and class which was evident throughout the season. St Peter’s declared their second innings at 188 for 8 in 61 overs. When rain intervened, Ananda College were 7 for no loss in 4 overs.
