Here’s a round up of the matches which took place in the Singer U19 Divison I Cricket Tournament today.
Trinity College vs St Peter’s College
The opening day of this traditional encounter lasted only 39 overs as there was heavy rain in Colombo throughout the day. Trinity College won the toss and elected to bat first. Their innings never took off as there were continued interruptions due to rain. However, after a collapse early on they managed to consolidate well through an unbeaten half century by Hasintha Jayasuriya. Ultimately umpires were forced to call it a day in the second session when the visitors were 99 for 3 in 39 overs.

Nalanda College vs Richmond College
Surrey Grounds hosted this Group C encounter between Nalanda College and Richmond College. The boys from down south won the toss and elected to bowl first. Nalanda’s innings was falling apart against the new ball and they soon found themselves cleaned up for just 83 runs in 35.4 overs.

Dharmasoka College vs Mahinda College
Traditional encounter between Dharmasoka College and Mahinda College started off today at Mahinda Rajapaksha International Cricket Stadium. Darmashoka won the toss and elected to bat first. They got off to a good start but it was halted due to rain. After play resumed, Darmasoka crumbled and they were ultimately bowled out for just 145 runs. Sachin Sanjeewa top scored with 47 runs while Kavidu Ediriweera bagged 6 for 57 for Mahinda College.
When the umpires called it a day, Mahinda Collehe in their 1st innings were 34 for 2.

S. Thomas’ College vs De Mazenod College
S. Thomas’ College managed to take control with the bat on day 1 in their Group D encounter against De Mazenod College at Kandana. Visitors won the toss and elected to bat first. They managed to post 238 all out in 73.2 overs. Dulip Gunarathne top scored with 58 while all rounder Dellon Peiris scored 45 runs. With the ball for De Mazenod, Saliya Jude bagged 6 for 69.
In reply, the home side was in a spot of bother at 38 for 1 when bad light stopped play on day 1.
