Malinga Amarasinghe scored twin half centuries and also claimed two wickets as Nalanda College won first innings against St. Peter’s College in their U-19 inter-school cricket match concluded at Campbell Park today.
Amarasinghe hit a top score of 80 and shared a fightiing 167 on day one with Avishka De Silva to help his side to healthy score and then picked up two wickets for 27 runs before scoring an unbeaten 50 off 63 balls with three fours and three sixes.
Nalanda resumed day two at 202 for the loss of six wickets but could muster only 23 runs as St. Peter’s finished off the tail in quick time.
St. Peter’s despite an imposing 82 off 101 balls with nine boundaries and three sixes could not avert a first innings defeat as they were bowled out for 174 in the first innings.
Kanishka Niramal and Pramud Hettiwatte were the pick of the bowlers claiming four wickets each. Nirmal had four for 39 while Hettiwatte took four for 50. At stumps on the final day, Nalanda in their second innings were 96 for the loss of three wickets. Avishka De Silva who made 71 in the first innings was unbeaten on 23.
